Help your city. Travel to Vienna.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a lasting effect on travel in Europe. Entire countries went into lockdown. Borders were closed. The tourism industry and all of the institutions associated with it, from culture to hospitality, continue to suffer the financial fallout. And it is not just geographical borders that went up, but psychological ones, too. Slowly but surely, solidarity and intercultural exchange across national borders started to dry up. Normally bustling cities were transformed into ghost towns. The European idea? Sealed off behind closed doors.
But now Vienna is looking to restore that sense of togetherness and reach out to other major European cities with its United Cities of Tourism initiative. To underline the links that we share, together with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Austrian Airlines, Vienna will send one Viennese resident to a city in Europe for every 100 people that come to Vienna. What does that mean for your home town? The more guests that travel to the Austrian capital from your city between May 1 and June 30, 2022, the more Viennese we will send your way in return.
